| boom | (untitled) | (socket) | (bloom) |
three generative image processes by mitchell whitelaw about each process is a visualisation of the same simulation - a simple two-dimensional model of an explosion. In each process the user can position a cloud of points and the origin of the explosion. The drawing processes visualise simple relationships between the positions of the points. In untitled lines are drawn between each point and its two nearest neighbours. In socket the same group of points is used to draw the circle that passes through all three points. In bloom, three-point circles are drawn between each point, its nearest neighbour, and the origin of the explosion. context boom is inspired in part by the abstract generative work of artists such as Casey Reas and Jared Tarbell. It also tries to address what James Tindall has described as the "solipsism" of code-based art, and the capacity of generative work to create dynamic ontologies that somehow connect with the outside world (which I've written about here). See also this essay on the work, written for Spanish magazine Aminima. contact mitchell.whitelaw (at) canberra.edu.au
